Christchurch’s largest Drum and Bass Arena show for 2024
Sub180 engaged us to once again supply full production for their largest indoor show of the year, Mayhem, now up to its fourth installment. This year saw a return to Wolfbrook Arena and demanded an increase in production level to meet the increased venue demand. The current trend for Drum and Bass shows was for 360 degree stages, and Sub180 wanted to put a unique spin on this concept and provide a premier top tier experience for attendees.
A 270 degree stage design, allowing for maximum viewing opportunities, whilst not compromising on audio quality as many 360 degree designs do. This was achieved by hanging 3 concentric circle trusses at varying heights over the centre of the stage filled with Pointe and Tilt Strobe lighting fixtures. This was framed from behind with U Torm frames containing more Pointe, K10 and Tilt Strobe in between angled Absen LED walls. In front we placed two diagonal front trusses containing MegaPointe fixtures, as well as a large ground package to compliment the overhead. Our audio department designed a solution to provide even and consistent coverage, with Adamson S10 main hangs and outfills, and a raked sub deployment and fill setup – time aligned to perfection. FX was worked in through the deployment of CO2 & Stage Flames, as well as our 33W Lasers.

The 270 degree design allowed for a unique audience perspective and more surface area along the barrier, creating increased engagement.

With the DJ centred under the circle trusses and diagonal front trusses, all attention was drawn into the centre of the stage. The audio coverage was clear and even, and the sub reinforcement performed to the level required for international Drum and Bass artists. The lighting design was able to provide a massive variety of looks and control via our new MA3 Full Size console allowed for unique effect combinations. The LED Screen partnered with live camera setup from VJs Offline added yet another element to this, and with NDI colour integration for Lighting, LED and Lasers created consistency across the design. Topped off with the large FX package, Mayhem has been described as one of the country’s best produced Drum and Bass shows for 2024.
